James Dalton Woodward's Obituary
James Dalton Woodward, 94, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in Mansfield.
Graveside Service: 12:30pm Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
James was born November 30, 1921 in Lubbock, Texas to Sidney and Eunice Fay Woodward. He graduated from Temple High School in Temple, Texas and enlisted into the Army Air Corps September 18, 1942. He served our country in combat as a gunner in B-17s over Europe and was honorably discharged in 1945. For his bravery, he received the Air Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the EAME Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. On November 7, 1945, he married Dortha Jean Brown in Acuff, Texas. They resided in Lubbock and were members of Woodrow Baptist Church. James worked in construction and enjoyed restoring old furniture. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Grady and sister Dorothy.
Survivors: wife of 71 years, Dortha Jean Woodward of Lubbock TX; son, James Stanley Woodward of Lubbock; daughter, Nancy Woodward Copeland and husband Melvin of Mansfield; grandchild Jennifer Copeland Cook, son-in-law Robert Cook and two great-grand children Matthew and Michael Cook all of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
