Mary Nickason's Obituary
Mary Catherine Nickason, 92, was united with her heavenly Father, June 5, 2014 while living in Mansfield.
Private Services are being held at a later date in California.
Mary was born October 9, 1921 in Wichita, Kansas to Elmer and Josephine Garitson. She grew up in Wichita and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. As a young woman she enjoyed dancing, fashion and was an excellent ice pairs skater, performing in numerous productions along with her sister Rita and best friend, Bobby. She worked in the Cessna Factory during World War II. She married Ivan "Nick" Nickason on February 15, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas. Mary and her husband moved to San Diego in 1954 where she enjoyed raising her family, camping, working and bowling. She was a founding member of the 600 Club in southern California. Mary and Nick moved to Palm Desert, California to retire and she enjoyed playing golf with her husband, reading, craft projects, and traveling on numerous cruises around the world. Mary moved to Mansfield several years after Nick's passing and has resided here for seven years.
She was preceded in death by her brother John Garitson. Mary is survived by her son, Jim Nickason and his wife Kathy of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Jan Giroux and her husband David of San Jose, California and Teri Alexander and her husband George of La Mesa, California; sister, Rita Flanigan of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughter, Laura Hammer and her husband Hoyt of Fort Worth, Texas; grandson, Mark Nickason of Breckenridge, Colorado; great grandsons, Will and Aaron Hammer of Fort Worth.
