Clifford Hammer's Obituary
Clifford Howard Hammer, of Mansfield TX, Port Aransas TX and formerly of Saginaw MI, died Monday, February 29th at the Isles at Watercrest. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Judith A. (Farley) Hammer, of Mansfield TX and Port Aransas TX. He leaves three children, Nancy K. Esposito of Irmo, SC, Alan H. Hammer of Arlington, TX, and Craig H. Hammer of Palo Alto, CA; one sister, Esther V. Jontz of Davenport, IA; four grandchildren, Kristy K. (Hierholzer) Dana of Coleman, MI, Joshua W. Hierholzer of Lake Jackson, TX, Caroline M. Hammer of St. Andrews Scotland, and Christopher C. Hammer of Worcester, MA, and one great grand daughter. He was predeceased by his first wife Patricia A. Chiaravono.
He was born in Keewanee, IL on September 23, 1929, the son of A. Howard and Anna V. (Ober) Hammer. He was raised in Buda, IL and attended Buda High School where he played basketball, football and was his graduating class valedictorian.
He went on to graduate from General Motors Institute and then joined the Army in 1952 where he served for 2 years on active duty and another 6 years in the reserves. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He then embarked on a 39 year career with General Motors where he ultimately retired as the Assistant Divisional Comptroller for the Central Foundry, Powertrain Division in Saginaw, MI. His retirement was short-lived and he returned to work at Arrow Paper as Financial Advisor to the CEO. He also taught accounting at Mott Community College.
Cliff was a life long religious man, and most recently was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Port Aransas, TX. Cliff enjoyed golf, cards and bowling, and time at Germania Town and Country Club and the Saginaw Club. Cliff enjoyed time with his family, friends and neighbors and could be counted on for providing cheerful banter with all encountered strangers.
