James Leonard Lewis' Obituary
ARLINGTON -- James Leonard Lewis, 77, was received into the hands of the Lord, Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his residence in Arlington.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodland West Church of Christ. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville. Viewing: 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hearts and Hands Ministry at Woodland West Church of Christ or the American Alzheimer's Association.
James graduated from Era High School in Era and excelled in football and basketball. He attended Texas Tech where he studied electrical engineering and after college, he joined the Army. In 1959, James went to work for Braniff International Airways. He served as captain for three airlines, Braniff, Piedmont and US Airways. He was a member of Woodland West Church of Christ for over 46 years and was a devoted volunteer for Hearts and Hands. He loved his large family, including his little dogs.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce M. Lewis of Arlington; his sons, James Ray Lewis of Colorado, Matthew A. Lewis of Arlington, and Jonathan D. Lewis of Granbury; his daughter, Diana Lewis Jones and her husband Mark of Kaufman; his brothers, Lee Lewis of Corinth and Carroll Gene Lewis of Roanoke; his grandsons, James Ray Lewis Jr. of Montrose, Colo., Christian Manning of Hurst, Casey Boyd of Arlington, Dylan Lewis of Arlington, and Tanner Lewis of Mabank; granddaughters, Ashleigh Wilson and her husband William of Austin, and Whitney Boyd of Arlington; and his great-granddaughters, Sadie Claire Wilson and Ella Marie Wilson of Austin. He was preceded in death by numerous other relatives.
