Alvin Pamplin's Obituary
Alvin Pamplin was born December 7, 1920, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, to the proud parentage of Earah and Samuel Pamplin. They strived to instill in their children the importance of the love of God, hard work and education, which was not easy to come by in those days.
Alvin accepted Christ and was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, Louisiana.
When Alvin was 21 years old he chose to serve his country and joined the United States Navy during World War II. After his military service Alvin returned home where he met the love of his life, Ressie. Alvin and Ressie were united in marriage on January 24, 1946. Their unbreakable bond produced six children, Edna, Marie, Shirley, Dennis, Alvin, Jr., Tammie and Lesa. Edna Marie and Alvin Jr. preceded him in death.
Alvin began teaching at CH Iron School in Benton, Louisiana, where he taught for 33 years until his retirement. In those 33 years of teaching Alvin only missed three days of school. His dedication to the children of Benton was unparalleled. Alvin also taught school at night to adults who were studying for their GED. Alvin believed that success in life was achieved through education.
In 2004, Alvin and his beloved moved to Mansfield, Texas, to be closer to their children. For Alvin’s children, grandchildren and their friends, the move to Texas created the beginning of many great meals to come. Alvin was a genius in the kitchen and cooked for the masses. Next to reading the bible, Alvin’s only hobby was cooking for his family.
Alvin and Ressie joined Cornerstone Baptist Church where he remained active until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister; his first great-grandchild, Jade Jiles; and his beloved wife, Ressie.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his children, Shirley (Hubert), Dennis, Tammie and Lesa; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
