Barbara Simmons, born Barbara Smith on April 30, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and devotion that will live on in all who knew her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, her brothers J.C. Smith and Jack Smith, and her dear sister, Shirley Judge. Though their absence was deeply felt, she carried their memory in her heart throughout her life.
Barbara was a woman of faith. Barbara loved God deeply, and her faith was the foundation of her life. She found great joy in attending church, worshiping, and being in fellowship with others. Her relationship with God meant everything to her, and she carried that love and faith with her every day.
A woman of many talents and passions, Barbara found joy in music, often filling her home with the beautiful sounds of the piano and organ. She was a gifted musician whose melodies brought comfort and happiness to those around her. She also expressed her heart through poetry, capturing life’s emotions in words that will be cherished by her family.
Barbara’s kitchen was a place of love and togetherness. She was known for preparing delicious meals that brought family and friends together, creating memories around the table that will never fade. She especially loved hosting barbecues at the lake in Granbury, Texas—moments filled with laughter, sunshine, and the people she loved most.
At the center of Barbara’s life was her deep and enduring love for Paul Loomis, the love of her life. Together, they built a family grounded in love, strength, and resilience.
Barbara was a proud and devoted mother to her four children: her daughters, Pamela Gayle, Barbara Diane, and Paula Marie, and her son, Bobby Wayne. She cherished each of them deeply and took great pride in the lives they built.
Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Juanita Loomis, Carlos Ortega, John Ortega, Erica Ortega, Tina Michelle Loomis, Jose Torres, and Ruth Gonzalez. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren—Juan, Andrew, and Mark Torres, and Jonathan and Joshua Gonzalez—who brought her immense joy and pride.
