Cora Harris' Obituary
Cora Harris, a beacon of kindness and wisdom, passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on January 8, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, Cora was the third eldest of six siblings, raised by her devoted parents, Alvin and Elisabeth Porter.
Cora's loving presence touched many lives throughout her remarkable journey. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Thelma (Ronald) Humphrey, Alveretta (Charles) Payne, Harriett (Kenneth) Dogen, Elisabeth (Lamar) Myrick, and her beloved daughter Arlene Toney.
She is survived by her sister Delores (Nathan, dec) Johnson; her children Paulette (Dennis) Patton, Walter James III (Jacqueline) Jenkins, and Sandra Lee (Kevin, dec) Robison; her devoted grandchildren Jheatc Keri Robison and Kim Latrease Toney; and a cherished host of additional grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and her special friend, Shirly Payne.
Cora was a loyal member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church of Gary, IN. Her impact extended far beyond her immediate family. With an unwavering dedication to helping others, she spent over 20 years as an Intake Supervisor at the Calumet Township Trustees Office in Gary, Indiana. Her work there was marked by compassion and a commitment to service, earning her lasting friendships and deep respect from those she served.
Cora was known for her quick-witted humor, boundless generosity, and selfless love. She took immense joy in spending time with her family, tending to her garden, and offering a helping hand to those in need. Her spirit of kindness meant she would never allow anyone to go hungry or homeless if she could help prevent it.
A memorial service to celebrate Cora’s life will be held on August 3rd at 11:00am at New Life Fellowship Church 201 E. Sublett Rd Arlington, TX 76018. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring a woman whose life was a testament to love, strength, and selflessness.
Cora Harris leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and compassion. Her wisdom, strength, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
