Diane Victoria Gulley, 69, was born November 17, 1954, to Teresa and the late Richard Johnson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Diane was raised in Altus, Oklahoma, and graduated from Altus High School. She was called home by God on April 27, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio.
Diane was extremely resourceful, serving military families in various capacities for over 35 years. She was the sole proprietor of her own cleaning business for years helping military families transition during change of station assignments. She was employed with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) for over 30 years, including while overseas in Germany. She was a hard worker and committed to ensuring the best service for those serving our country.
Diane was a beautiful and loving soul inside and out, dedicating her life to her family and community. She was a proud mother who planted continuous seeds of love and support, which created a path of success for her legacy. She always knew how to make a house a home regardless of where she lived. She was a giver, kindhearted, and never met a stranger. Diane touched all whom she met with her big heart and generous spirit.
Diane enjoyed cooking, gardening, and shopping in her spare time. If you received a meal, you were blessed even more. She was the cook of the family and never needed a recipe. She cooked from the heart and could prepare a meal in minutes. She had a green thumb and was often recognized for the yard of the month across multiple military bases. Diane could shop, until you dropped.
Although Diane suffered in the flesh, she remained positive. She was a woman of God and fought to the end. She praised God during her last days despite the pain and circumstances. She was still that mother figure and never wavered, which provided her family comfort during their own pain. She gave instructions in pure Diane fashion while in the hospital. She laughed, joked, and even rolled her eyes providing comic relief. We kept saying, “Mom we got this, get your rest.”
Diane encouraged us all during this time, letting us know that despite it all God gives us strength and power. We may not understand His decision, but we are thankful for the time He gave us together. Diane was loved and she knew it, daily conversations ended with “I love you.” Diane’s life is a testament to how God will provide us peace during the storm.
She was preceded in death by her father Richard Johnson, her sister Theresa Dalley and her niece Latoya Dalley. She is survived by her two daughters Gwendoline Allen (husband Reggie Allen) and Natoyia Harris (husband Christopher Harris) and their families (8 grandchildren) and her two sons Leonard and Derek Gulley, her mother Theresa Johnson, her sister Angelette Wynn, her brother Rickie Johnson (wife Janet Johnson), nieces, nephews, and host of other family and friends.
We express gratitude and appreciation for the unconditional love and support of her significant other Kenneth Salter. He was there by her side daily and provided the family support while traveling back and forth to Ohio.
We celebrate the blessing bestowed upon us being in your life. Your work is done here, so rest in peace. Job well done! Diane Gulley, we love you and you will be truly missed!
