I just ran across this. It breaks my heart. Captain Sharer was my Commanding Officer at NAS Dallas. Captain. Sharer was a not only a great CO, but a great man. I was a PR2 at the time. I was at a local bar and Captain Sharer recognized me and bought me a beer. We swapped sea stories and had a wonderful conversation about education. At the time I was finishing up a BBA in business. Captain Sharer, suggested I get my MBA. I went back and got the MBA, and a few years later another masters in Transportation. It changed my life. What a wonderful man. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Our country lost a great man, leader, and friend. May God Bless each of you. You may never know how many sailors lives he impacted for the better. Best CO I ever had.

Captain Sharer was CO of NAS Dallas when I was CO of one of his tenant squadrons, VR-59 in 1998. He was a great friend and I enjoyed many rounds of golf with hi. I considered him a great American and a true hero. My condolences to the family.

❤️What a blessing to be able to spend time with you before you passed so peacefully into the arms of Our Lord. There are no words in any language to express our love for you. Your friends and family in Virginia mourn with those in Texas. A memorial service in Virginia will be held in the months to come with details forthcoming. 80 years is a lot of time and many lives touched. Besides being a true American hero, Dad was also a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and community member in the cities of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.
