Eugene Richardson, Jr.'s Obituary
Eugene Richardson, Junior, son of the late Eugene Richardson, Sr. and Carrie Young Richardson was the eldest of four boys, Louis, Willard, and Herman. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 26, 1935. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 6:15 p.m. at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Eugene grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was educated in the Orleans Parish School System, where he attended R.T. Danneel Elementary School and Booker T. Washington Senior High School.
Eugene accepted Christ and gave God his heart in his late teens. He was baptized at the Little Zion Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until he was uprooted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. On Sundays, at Little Zion, you could find Eugene in the choir lifting his voice in praise or at the microphone leading the male chorus in song. His adoration for gospel music was evident, for he used his baritone voice to glorify God. His rendition of “Peace Be Still’ still resonates in the hearts of many that heard him sing. He was a self-taught piano student and loved to lift his voice in song. Upon moving to Dallas, Eugene joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late, Dr. Karry D. Wesley.
Coop, as he was fondly known, was a servant of good will. He worked as a supermarket bagger, runner to waterfront workers, and a parking attendant— all service jobs-while working his lawn business part-time. In 1979, Eugene stepped out on faith and became a fulltime owner of his landscaping business. Through his business, many young men in the community were able to get a second chance by working with “Coop”. His empathic nature was evident in how he lived amongst men. He was a humble, gentle spirit, slow to anger, quick to forgive. Eugene possessed a quiet manner, but when he spoke, everyone listened.
“Just to behold his face, his saving grace, oh yes, I’ve got to see Jesus for me when Sunday comes.”
He is now reunited with his loved ones who preceded his death, his father and mother, Eugene Sr. and Carrie Richardson, brothers, Louis, Willard, and Herman.
Eugene leaves to cherish his memories his devoted and beloved wife of 65 years, Wilhelmena Collins Richardson, two daughters; Michelle (Clarence) Booker, Rochelle (Dyrus) Charles, Son; Juan, three grandchildren; Chad (Chrystal), Maya, Tahj, two great -grandchildren; Chloe, Skye, seven sisters-in-laws; Juliette Richardson, Barbara, Evelyn, Jean, and Julia Collins, Marguerite, Lucille, Brothers-in-law; Herbert, Edgar, Alvin, Henderson, Albert, uncle of; Rhonda, Kyle (Tisha), Beryl (Demetrius), Zelda, Willard, and Patrick (Sandra) and a host of aunts, cousins, other nieces and nephews, Godfather of Shawn Williams, bonus Grandfather of Lailah and Hiram Burton, and other relatives and lifelong friends.
