Evelyn Miller Poland's Obituary
Evelyn Miller Poland passed away recently at the age of ninety-three. Born Evelyn Lucille Miller in
Garber, Oklahoma in 1931, she was the oldest of two children to Sherman and Elda Miller.
Evelyn graduated from Garber High School in 1949 and attended a business school in Enid, Oklahoma.
She was a secretary at Braniff International Airways in Dallas, Texas and Highland Baptist Church in
Arlington, Texas along with other secretarial positions.
Evelyn and Sydney Wade Poland, were married in 1956 and celebrated sixty-four years of marriage.
They lived in Dallas, Texas for a few years, then Garland, Texas for a year. Afterwards, they moved to
Arlington, Texas where they raised their two children. Their wonderful neighborhood included the Borst
and Minter families. Evelyn and Syd were also very involved in serving the Lord at Highland Baptist
Church where they met their good friends Wayne and Jannis Sibley. They later served the Lord at First
Baptist, Euless. In 1988, they moved to Katy, Texas because of Syd’s job transfer and joined Second
Baptist Church, Houston. After Syd’s passing in 2021, Evelyn moved to Mansfield, Texas where she
joined Cedar Heights Baptist Church.
Evelyn was a committed Christian. For volunteer work, she was a nursery coordinator and church
pianist at Highland Baptist Church, Arlington, Texas, a Sunday School teacher for toddlers and a choir
member at First Baptist Church, Euless, and a choir member at Second Baptist Church, Houston.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Susan Finch and husband Reagan, her son Stan Poland and wife Ann;
Susan and Reagan’s son Preston and his children Olivia, Aiden, and Ezra; Susan and Reagan’s son Tyson
and wife Bailey and their children Liam and Saunder; her brother Albert Miller and his daughter Terri
Day; sister-in-law Rosie Lee Anglin, her husband Kirby, and their children Keith and Sherri; niece Rebecca
Henslee and her husband Matt, and nephew Richie Poland. She leaves extended family and dear friends
who are grateful to have known such a wonderful woman.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Southern Baptist
Convention Missions.
