Gerald Johnson's Obituary
Gerald Johnson was born on March 22, 1936 to Leola Roberts in Eastman, Georgia. Gerald graduated from Peabody High School in 1954 and entered the United States Air Force, in October of the same year. Gerald retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant on December 31, 1980, after 26 years of service. He went on to work for General Dynamics from 1981 until February 1985 when he once again chose to serve his country; this time as a Quality Assurance Specialist for the United States Government assigned to Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, TX. Gerald remained in this position until he retired in April of 2001. During his tenure at Lockheed Martin, Gerald also attended Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in May of 2000. After retiring from Lockheed, Gerald spent several years on the Board for the Tarrant Appraisal District.
Gerald met the love of his life, Jewel Banks, in Fort Worth, Texas in 1958 and entered into Holy Matrimony on March 3, 1961. They were blessed with one son, Derek Wayne Johnson in 1970. Gerald was later blessed with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Gerald was a member of the Church of Christ.
On Sunday, March 27, 2022, Gerald departed this life after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leola Roberts; his brothers Will “Bootsie” Coney, Charles Coney, and Raymond Coney; and his sisters Johnnie Mae Wilson and Mildred Hall. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Jewel Johnson of Mansfield, TX; son Derek Wayne Johnson (Janel) of Arlington, TX; five grandchildren: Loren Herron Johnson of Houston, TX; Donavan Johnson (Sheina) of Fort Worth, TX; Jasmine Johnson of Arlington, TX; Derek Johnson II of Denton, TX; and Dominique Johnson of Arlington, TX; four great-grandchildren: Cailyn, Kayden, Cole and Kaylani; and a host of other relatives and friends.
