I met Jerry back in the late 80's because of our mutual love of the Datsun 280Z. The time before online ads and cell phones, so land lines and classified ads. "Datsun" was the American name for Nissan back then. I met him through a mutual Z-Car friend. Jerry's nick name was "Z-Car Man" because he was a walking Encyclopedia on the Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, and 280ZXs. We would all would get the local newspapers first thing in the morning and start calling on classified adds those cars. Most of the time, Jerry would get there before me or anyone else and pick up the "good deal", however, one time I did beat him on a green 1976 280Z. He drove up as I was backing out of the drive way. He said, "The was a good deal" and winked and said, "you got me" with a smile. When we met at the dealer auto auctions, we agreed on which one to bid on so we were not driving up the price by bidding against each other. I always knew I could call him and he would go out of his way to be helpful on Z-Cars. He even came to my house to help or look at issues. A great guy that was the best!
