Gery was part of the writer roster at the marketing agency I work at, and he was truly one of the kindest, most polite freelancers I've worked with over my editing career. Gery was clearly eager to learn and grow at his craft, and he was unfailingly grateful for all the opportunities we sent his way. We all miss him very much.
Gery joined our roster of freelance writers in 2015, and since then, I've had the pleasure of working with him and watching him grow as a writer. His kindness will always be remembered, and his reliable work made him a fast favorite among our team of editors. We will miss him so, so much.
In late 2015, Gery started freelance writing for the marketing agency where I’d recently started as an editor. It was always such an extreme pleasure to work with him because he was unfailingly kind, polite, and reliable. He clearly took pride in doing good work and was grateful for any opportunities he received. His spirit always shined through, even from a distance. We all really miss him.
I first met Gery attending a comedy event that Jill was participating in. From the moment he said hello, I could tell he was a genuine soul that cared deeply for others. I remember a time when he, Jill's son Tyler, and I were walking down the street toward the event and Gery moved on the side closest to the road so I wouldn't be closest to the traffic and told Tyler "never let a lady walk near the road." It was a brief moment, but it really showed how much he valued others and only wanted the best for the people around him.
When I later went on to work at my current job, he made an effort to let me know how grateful he was for my assistance in covering his blogs when he was on vacation or off. He was a genuine soul that cared deeply for others, and he will be missed.
I first met Gery in 2012 when he started at MDPM. Self taught, Gery developed his writing skills as a way to transform his life. Over the 8 years we worked together we have seen each other through many changes and transitions in our lives. When times were tough Gery had my back and I always tried to have his. I watched him grow and change, especially once he became a father. Being a dad was his favorite role in life. He will be missed by many and I will always remember him as someone who wrote his way out of a bad situation into a new life, even if it was way too short.
Gery was my baby brother. Thinking back, we always had a close bond. Sometimes we did grow apart for a little while but we always managed to make sure we were there for each other when it counted. I have so many favorite memories. From staying up late and slaying zombies on Dying Light, to sneaking out late at night to go watch Marvel movies, or even just hanging out with him and Nico and my kids at my house being goofy. He's always been of my favorite people in the world. We are going to miss him terribly.
I met Gery several years ago, when I was the new writer on the block. He trained me over many phone calls and occasional meetings at the office. I remember sometimes he'd schedule around his baby's sleep schedule or other personal things, but he always found time to call back or send a comment via email. A genuinely good guy. I still find it hard to believe he is gone.
I met Gery when I took a class at the Dallas Comedy House years and years ago. He was so funny, imaginative and talented. Long after that class was over I was looking to redo my website. My son recommended Gery for the job. It was nice to have someone I knew to do the writing for my website. He did such a great job and I really enjoyed our visits. He spoke highly of his son's mother and talked about how much he loved his son. It's been years since I've seen Gery, but I must say I always figured we would see each other again. I am so sad that he is gone. What a loss.
