Glenda Marlene Cargal's Obituary
Glenda Marlene Merrill Cargal said she would live to be 83. Why? Because that’s how long her Aunt and Grandma lived. (Obviously!) She passed February 8th, 2023 — just 5 weeks shy of her 83rd birthday (the one and only time she was early for anything!) While she will be greatly missed, we are comforted knowing Marlene heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” in the presence of Jesus and our loved ones that have gone before her.
Marlene grew up in between Childress, CeeVee and Wichita Falls. TX. She married in 1958 and had four of her five children, She found herself in Texas as a single mom in 1971 where she met and married the love of her life, Gary P. Cargal. They resided in Wichita Falls when she had her 5th child.
Marlene was referred to as loving, funny, helpful, beautiful, and crafty — and if you really knew her well — a firecracker. She loved babies, and she deeply loved her family. She made everyone feel welcome with both her hugs and unique love language of pestering those she loved the most. She truly will be remembered for the way she loved well.
She is survived by 4 of her children, Christi Starr Smith (Ricky), Kimmie Jo Harrison (Brad), Bart Starr, Mindy Lawhorne, brother Gene Merrill along with 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gary P. Cargal, daughter Renata Lea Starr Long, son-in-law Lawrence Lee Lawhorne, Mother/Father Arlene and Randall Merrill, brother Gail Merrill and sister Sondra Merrill.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in Marlene’s memory go to Grace Harbor Church in New Bedford, MA. (Graceharborchurch.net (http://graceharborchurch.net/)
