Mr. Glenn Oscar People Sr.'s Obituary
Born in Mansfield, Louisiana, on September 11, 1941, Glenn Oscar People, Sr. took his first breath of what he later described as “a good life,” valuing peace of mind and the freedom to live his life as he saw fit.
A dedicated serviceman, Glenn joined the United States Air Force, serving with distinction for 20 years. Following his military career, he transitioned to the aerospace industry, retiring a second time and vowing never to fly again.
Glenn preferred the written word over spoken communication. With elegant penmanship, he shared wisdom and inspiration on a wide array of topics. His poems and letters continue to uplift the hearts of family, co-workers, and fellow service members.
Rising from humble beginnings to triumphantly overcoming three battles with cancer, he embodied an extraordinary resiliency and will to conquer adversity. His endurance may have grown from his religious roots, being the first person baptized in his family’s church, and decades-long encouragement from Rev. Shirley Caesar’s gospel song, "Hold My Mule."
Admired by many, people aspired to emulate his kindness, generosity to those in need, and God-given talent for writing. Others wished to be as skillful a bowler as he was, and younger men couldn't help but acknowledge his “game”— the fast-driving, top-of-the-line cars and the lifestyle that accompanied them.
Glenn loved his family and was very proud of his children and their successes. His absence will be heartfelt. His memory lives on in his children Jacinta Johnson (Derek), Eureka People, Glenn People, Jr., and Lorenzo People; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and the family of his former wife Deloris People (née Parker).
