H. Arlen Smith's Obituary
On August 22, 2022, my father, H. Arlen Smith (Herbert Arlen Smith), passed away after a four month battle with colon cancer. He was already suffering from the terrible things that Alzheimer's delivers to it's unlucky victims, when cancer decided to get in on the act. My father had been widowed in July of 2019, after his wife of 58 years, my mom, passed away. My dad was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had many interests in his lifetime, but especially loved cars. Fast cars! For someone who lived most of their life in a small California town, (Boron, California) he had experienced many things and truly enjoyed life. He bought land in Oklahoma and settled there, even raising cows for awhile. But as was typical of my dad, who loved animals, he actually named all of his cows! They would even come to him when it was dinner time! He built a tank - car crusher, he was a semi truck driver for a time frame. He owned a gas station and auto repair shop. He raised three children, and became a grandpa. My grandkids called him "Cowpapa" - you guessed it, because of the cows. Several years ago, my parents relocated once again, to Grand Prairie, TX where we live so that they were closer to family. He was born in Taft, California, and passed away in Arlington, Texas. He is survived by his only living sibling, Gaye Bear, his children: Carrie (Mark) Henderson, Amanda (Tim) Freeman, Arlen (Sherry) Smith. 5 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren. My father was 80 years old and was a prominent person in my life. I will love and miss him forever.
