James A. "Red" Booker's Obituary
James A. (Red) Booker, age 90, passed away on the evening of Thanksgiving, November 25, 2021. James was born on April 4, 1931, in Brookston, Texas to Cordie Booker and Laura Powell Booker. James married Marie L. Booker of Dallas, Texas on May 27, 1972.
James served honorably in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and received the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. He also served in the Army Reserve for 8 years. Following his time in the Army, James moved from Paris, Texas to Dallas in the early 60s, where he became the owner of Booker Janitorial Services, which he maintained until retirement. James was also employed by various Dallas-based banking institutions. He maintained lifelong friendships with former Dallas mayor, Jack Evans, James and Annie Mays, Carolyn and Freddie Jefferson, Charles and Velma Murphy, Randy Hensley, Kandace Logan, Cathryn Roney and many more who hold a special place in our hearts. James never met a stranger and was fiercely loyal to those he loved. James was also a long time member and supporter of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Cordie and Laura Booker, his daughter Wanda Kay Booker, son, Gregory (Dickie) Booker, his twin brother, Gene (Bug) Booker, brothers C.B. Booker, R.B. Booker, Clement Kit Booker, Joe Louis Booker, sisters, Doris Brown and Betty Jo Alexander.
He is survived by his wife, Marie L. Booker, daughters Felecia Lewis (Alfred), Lametria Harris (Gannon), sons, Gabriel Booker, Gary Von Booker, Rodreik Booker, sister, MayDell Furtch, and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Public visitation will be held on December 4, 2021 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church. Services for Mr. James Booker will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 am at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church Christian Life Center. The Interment will be held at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, immediately following the service.
