Weekly spaghetti nights with uncle Jay and aunt Yvonne are one of my favorite memories. Jay would always cook his famous spaghetti for all of us to enjoy after a long week and in the summer time, he had strawberry shortcake prepared ahead of time for dessert. You could tell how much he cared for others through his actions, he had such a big heart. He will be missed but I know aunt Yvonne is happy to be reunited with him.
I was honored to get to meet Jay and Yvonne years ago through Their beautiful daughter Belinda( whom is an amazing friend to me)!
Jay would bring Yvonne to me to get her hair done and wait so patiently. Always amazed me
How sweet and gentle he was with her. I thought to myself, wow, not many men want to wait in their wives at the salon:)
Fast forward to the last couple of years, I got to go to his room and visit with him as I would cut his hair. He was always so kind. Jay really wanted to take my husband on a fishing trip.
Recently we went to Alaska, So jay told me to be sure to show him pictures as he knew it would be the only way they he would see Alaska. Just a few days before he went home to heaven, Mike( my husband)& I got to go see him& he seemed too enjoy looking at our pics.
We sure will miss him. Such a kind gentleman.
I meet Mr. and Mrs. Petty about 3 1/2 years ago, when I was hired on as a caregiver for Mrs. Petty. They were so sweet to my husband and I and treated us more like family. Told us about his duplex when we were having trouble with our apartment and said he was happy to help out such a great young couple. I remember him telling me when we first met about his marriage at the time of almost 61 years and I said wow how amazing , I haven’t even been married for 61 days, he laughed and said as long as we both treated each other with respect and put God first we were on the right track to getting there!
So hard to share one memory. He always liked to tell you a joke. He liked the funnies in the paper and crossword puzzles. Stubborn man, he was always fine even when you knew he was sick. I guess the most memorable time I can remember is putting up the Christmas tree and decorating it for them and he said it looked beautiful. They always welcomed others into their home. I remember being on the lake many times as a child with Uncle Jay and Aunt Von. One time that sticks out in my mind is a weekend I could not have been more than 6 or 7. It was dark and Uncle Jay turned on the spot light and started catching bugs and putting them on my hook, as soon as the hook would hit the water I would get a bite. We caught and released soooo many little perch! I was so excited! As a child i was of course impatient when it came to fishing but because he had taken the time to do that with me it made a lasting impression on a young girl. Boy did he love to fish.
I loved that every christmas/Thanksgiving/holiday/random day I could count on sitting around a table playing chicken foot with him and Aunt Yvonne. Or that his hugs always seemed to make the whole world seem right.
Thank you for sharing Jay with us. We were so honored that he became part of our family. I will treasure the moment that I was able to be his bus driver and he was my "Special" passenger. Heaven has gained another Angel. My heart is heavy for the family, but knowing your parents are together again offers much comfort. Prayers for each of you. Hold on to the special memories.
