Jewel Johnson's Obituary
Jewel Banks was born on July 24, 1937 to James Homer Banks, Sr and Ruby Sansom Banks in Liberty Hill, Texas. She was the fourth of twelve children. Jewel graduated from Aycock High School in Rockdale, Texas and later moved to Fort Worth, Texas to help her older sister, Wanda, with her children. There she met the love of her life, Gerald Johnson, in 1958, and they entered into Holy Matrimony on March 3, 1961. They were blessed with one son, Derek Wayne Johnson in 1970, and they were later blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jewel obeyed the gospel at an early age and dedicated her life to serving God and serving others. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Jewel was a devoted wife and homemaker and an excellent cook. She was known and loved for her devotion to her family and her tasty meals. She traveled the world with her military husband for many years, after which they settled down in Everman, Texas and later moved to Mansfield, Texas in 1997, where they each spent the rest of their days.
On Friday, August 19, 2022, Jewel departed this life after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald Johnson; her father, James Homer Banks, Sr; her mother Ruby Sansom Banks; her brothers Marvin Banks, Paul Banks and James Homer Banks, Jr; her sisters Annie Bell Banks, Wanda Green, Margaret Flowers and LaVara Heslip.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving son Derek Wayne Johnson (Janel) of Arlington, TX; her sisters, Allie Powells of Granite Bay, CA; Betty Bell (John) and Ruby Charlotte Hall (Reginald) of Houston, Texas; her brother Stanley Banks (Ollie) of Houston Texas; five grandchildren: Loren Herron Johnson of Houston, TX; Donavan Johnson (Sheina) of Fort Worth, TX; Jasmine Johnson of Arlington, TX; Derek Johnson II of Farmers Branch, TX; and Dominique Johnson of Arlington, TX; five great-grandchildren: Cailyn, Kayden, Cole, Kaylani and Caileigh; and a host of other relatives and friends.
