Joseph Lucio Stone IV's Obituary
Major Joseph "Joe" L. Stone IV (USAF, Retired), 61, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2021 in Grand Prairie, TX. Joe was born February 4,1960, in Fort Worth, TX. He is the eldest child of Doloris Gerald Stone and Colonel Joseph L. Stone, Jr.
Joe earned a BA degree in Finance/Business from Texas Tech University and a MBA in Finance from San Angelo State.
Joe served more than twenty years in the Air Force on active duty in comptroller/finance related positions. Among the many awards and honors he received were the Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award. He retired from active duty in Culver City, CA and then continued working as a civil servant in finance at the Air Force Base.
In 1990, Joe became the proud father to his cherished son Joseph L. Stone, V, who the family calls “Quint.” Quint is from a previous marriage to Angela Haywood.
Later, Joe met his soul mate, Kim Patrice Dumas, who was a loyal and devoted wife. The two shared a wonderful life of adventure, travel and love. Kim and Quint were a great support team for Joe, staying by his side and lovingly caring for him during his illness.
Joe was versatile, well rounded and truly loved life. He enjoyed eating good Texas BBQ, trading stocks and trying new things. For example, he learned Japanese and coached a youth girls basketball team. Joe was a protector of those he loved and a determined fighter. Just tell him something couldn't be done and he'd set off to show you it could. Joe could not have been more loving, thoughtful and generous to his family and friends. He created many fun memories for the family kids by treating them to summer camps, trips and more. More than anything else, Joe enjoyed spending time with his wife and his son.
Joe is survived by: his loving wife, Kim Stone and son, Quint, his father, Col. Joseph L. Stone, Jr (USAF, Retired) and step-mother Vernida Stone, Cedar Park, TX, siblings Gerald D. (Barbara) Stone, Faith Y. (Eric) Jordan, Crystal M. (Todd) Swenson, all of Round Rock, TX. Joe is also survived by in-laws who were family: Ida and Archie Hill, Lucretia Smith and Warren Eads, best friend Clayton Bennett and an extended family of many nieces, nephews, cousins and others who loved him very much.
Preceding Joe in death are his mother, Doloris Gerald Stone, maternal grandparents, William R. Gerald (Daddy Willie) and Gertrude L. Gerald (Mama Gertrude), Waco, TX, paternal grandparents, Joseph L. Stone and Azzilee Oliver Stone, Brighton, AL, aunt, Gloria Warren, uncles William Gerald Jr. and Lt. Colonel A. Bert Stone, PhD (US Army, Retired).
