JR Simpson's Obituary
JR Simpson died peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017, following an extended illness. Born in Milledgeville, Georgia, to Roscoe and Martha Overman Simpson, JR graduated Georgia Military College where he was cadet Battalion Commander. He received a BS from Georgia College, served as a U.S. Army Officer in Vietnam and completed his career as a telecommunications engineer with the General Services Administration. JR led a variety of major projects ranging from EUCOM’s telecom modernization to reestablishing connectivity onsite following the 9-11 disaster in New York. Known best for his quick-wit and perpetual smile, JR loved hunting, fishing, and any excuse to play golf. JR is survived by his wife, Sandye; and children, Michelle Pitts (Kevin), Chad Castle (Kesleigh), Page Simpson, Chata Franklin (Travis), and Bert Simpson. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren, Tristan Davis, Zoe Davis, Kate Castle, Caroline Castle, Emma Harris, Corbin Franklin, Cort Castle, Clayton Castle, and Conley Franklin. To them he was Granddad, who loved his sweets. He is also survived by his two brothers, Stephen (Susan) and Daniel (Phyllis.)
Services are on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Mansfield Funeral Home, 1556 Heritage Parkway, Mansfield, Texas 76063. Reception is at 12:00 p.m. with a celebration of life following at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Georgia Military College https://alumni.gmc.edu/ or to the donor’s favorite charity.
