Kamaria JaNai Satcher's Obituary
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NASB
The world was blessed with Kamaria JaNai Satcher in the early hours on a stormy Saturday, May 1, 2004. The youngest daughter of Kwasi and Christina Satcher, Kamaria came into the world with a strong determination to make a difference.
Kamaria went to sleep and woke up in heaven with a perfect body on Thursday, February 17, 2022. She was a warrior princess who courageously battled Kearns-Sayre Syndrome, a rare mitochondrial disorder for most of her life.
Kamaria attended school at Pearcy and Miller Elementary Schools, Young Junior High School, Martin and Seguin High Schools. She was in her senior year at Seguin High School in Arlington, Texas. While in high school, Kamaria was on the Starline Drill Team, received several awards and honors, and was loved by all of our classmates and teachers.
Kamaria confessed a hope in Christ on February 1, 2015 at the age of 10 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Kamaria served as an usher and participated in the Daughters of Deborah program until her illness started to progress. She also enjoyed attending Sunday School. She was a member of the A.C.O.L.Y.T.E.S. (Arlington Community of Lovely Young Teens Excelling in Service). Kamaria attended dance classes at Step-By-Step Dance Studio from the age of three years old and also participated in the Special Olympics.
Kamaria really enjoyed helping others and volunteering with her mom at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® events. She was always seen with her mom at some of her favorite annual events including the YES Summit, Family Expo, going to Debutante sessions and the Debutante Scholarship Ball and Debutante Presentation. In November of 2021, Kamaria was presented as a Debutante by the Arlington Foundation for Excellence In Education and was crowned Miss Debutante First Runner-up and Warrior Princess. Her career dream was to be a teacher. Her mom would say Kamaria taught us so much through her continued tenacity and grit. Her favorite hobbies were spending time with family and friends, going out to eat, shopping online and listening to hip hop music. SHE LOVED watching Hallmark Christmas movies and HER ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD WAS SEAFOOD!!!
She leaves to honor her legacy, her parents, Kwasi and Christina; her sisters, Coraè and Khirstian; her niece, Karsyn; her paternal grandmother, Patricia Satcher and her maternal grandmother, Ella Darrough; three uncles- Grover, Sedeki (Stephanie) and Jabulani (Ayanna); a host of cousins, relatives, friends and supporters of Kamaria’s Krew!
Kamaria was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Buford Satcher and her maternal grandfather, Fred Darrough.
Being passionate about finding a cure for Mitochondrial Disease, Kamaria’s family has chosen to raise funds specifically for Kearns-Sayre’s Syndrome (KSS), the mitochondrial disease that led to Kamaria’s death. To that end, Kamaria’s supporters have formed the Kamaria Satcher Society for Kearns-Sayre’s Syndrome (KSS squared). Death is not the end. It is simply the beginning of a life we cannot imagine while on earth.
