Kenneth "Kenny" Burrell's Obituary
KENNETH CARR BURRELL was born on October 14, 1956 in Greenville, Mississippi. The youngest of 10 children from the union of Robert LaMar Burrell Sr. and Olivia Brown Burrell. Kenneth “Kenny” accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Pastor E.C. Williams of Greater St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, where he began singing in the choir.
During his formative years, Kenny attended Greenville Public Schools. Kenny “Sly” was smart kid, INQUISITIVE he would try to do everything! But, when his oldest brother Robert Jr. “Son” took him to a racetrack, that was Kenny’s spark. Kenny’s mentor Bubba Holloway, taught Kenny how to work on and assemble cars. This is where he developed a passion for (multiple) jobs, dogs, cars, cars, cars… (I MEAN) race cars! In high school, Kenneth excelled in the school choir under the direction of the late great Herticine Jones. His amazing vocal skills that we all hear today he credits to that training.
Upon graduation from high school, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army serving as a Green Beret, Special Forces @ Fort Hood until his honorable discharge in 1977 for service to his country. Kenny attended Jackson State University studying business, finance, and accounting. A proud Master Mason member of TC Almore Masonic Lodge PHA, Lodge #242, Jackson, MS.
Eager to become an entrepreneur, Kenny set up a Wholesale Brokerage office for fish, poultry & other meat products. He launched his company KCB Enterprises, LLC, which is still in business today. He also sold manufacturer’s direct construction materials, bidding on city and state servicing government entities or contracts. In addition, to working heavy haul /long haul truck driving for many years, while pursuing his business goals.
In 1989, Kenny moved to Southern California. He “KDawg” worked as a Sales Account Executive with various Food Service Companies and the Trucking Transportation Industry combined for over 40 years. On September 21, 1991, he married the love of his life, Jacki Pettiford officiated by Rev. Dr. V.L. Brenson @ Bryant Temple AME Church, LA., CA. Kenny “Pipes” became a member of Bryant Temple singing in the Chancel Choir, Voices of the Temple & Men’s Chorus for over 20 years. Kenneth “Bro’er Burrell” traveled and performed with the gospel group, The Mighty Men of Christ all over Northern & Southern California.
By 2011, Kenneth “Daddy” “Dae Dae” relocated his family to DFW area of Denton County, Texas. He retired in 2019, to spend more time enjoying his passions: his family, his dog Batman Jack, attending Raiders & Lakers games, traveling, and playing with his race car! We all know Kenny, Sly, Pipes, KDawg, Bro’er Burrell, Daddy, Dae Dae could ‘deliver a conversation’ with you, but no conversation was more important than his relationship with God. An amazing man of faith, devoted family man; if you knew him you loved him because he was always your biggest supporter. Kenneth would often say,.” your faith is only as strong as your belief”
Yohobi…..love without boundaries.
