Lonnie Harrell
My Lil sister-in-law. She knew the right things to say to get under my skin.
But Kim was such a thoughtful person. One of the most thoughtful individuals I’ve ever met. Insightful, not full of pride or contempt. A warm giving soul.
The first time I met Kim around 2003, she knocked on my door and when I opened it she said, “I wanted to meet the man my kids have been hanging out wit and giving them chocolate!”. Kim didn’t play with her kids or with their nutrition. They needed a sitter (for their little kids back then), and since I worked nights and was off for a few days, my brother asked if I’d watch Emory and Cha-Cha. I laughed, and she laughed. And that’s the way our relationship was. She was always understanding.
Later, soon after Karis was born, they’d tell me stories of how my 1 yr old niece would stand on the baby swing and use it like a surfboard! Even though life was changing for them, they still opened their doors for me to stay with them for a month or two, before I headed off over seas. She was an excellent cook, surprisingly! I stole sole her style on some of that Italian food, to be honest! I still make it like I think she did! ...not as good though.
When my wife and I had our first born through an unexpected medical emergency over 5weeks early, who was is who had already gotten the key from brother and started fixing up our baby room for us cause we thought we had at least a month to go? That’s who my sister-in-law’s spirit is. They had the room perfect! I didn’t even know some of that stuff was there, from the baby shower. She knew what to do and how to do it.
To a first time mom and dad, that was a blessing! Thank you God for sharing one of your angels with us!
Rest In Peace sweet soul. See you when we get there!
Love you!
