Mabel Kehinde Ayobami Sodeinde's Obituary
Biography
Mabel was born on November 24, 1999, in Nigeria to Elder and Pastor Mrs. Sodeinde. She moved to the United States at 8 years old. She loved to read and write which showed greatly in her education. She graduated from Summit High school 2 years early with honors and most of her freshman college classes completed.
After High School, Mabel moved on to Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas. She attended Texas Tech University from 2018 – 2021 where she double majored in Political Science and History. She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in 2021 with Magna Cum Laude honors.
In 2019, she received the Stephens Anderson, and Cummings Law Scholarship and she was chosen as a Harvard Kennedy School PPLC Fellow. She was one of 75 students selected out of over 500 applicants from 192 different colleges and universities.
In 2020, she was awarded as a Sidley Austin Prelaw Scholar, which is a high accomplishment from one of the top law firms in the country. Mabel was also awarded as a United Nations Summer Intensive Program Scholar, and a Thomas R. Kline School of Law Dive-In Scholar.
While in college, she was an active member of Alliance for Black Labor Equity. She was a very strong civil rights advocate and an ACLU Advocacy Institute participant. She was very passionate about racial injustice and abolishing the death penalty, which led her to pursue law.
In 2021, She attended Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in Chicago, where she continued her advocacy for racial injustice and human rights. She interned at Illinois state Congress with Congressman Mark Veasey.
After Law school, Mabel wanted to serve the people through law. She wanted to tackle systemic racism and change the way the police system works. She also wanted to change the stigma on mental health, especially when it comes to black women.
Mabel was a kind soul that cared deeply about people. She was full of life and was always laughing and smiling. Her friends called her Mabes, and her family called her mama.
Mabel was a daughter, sister, aunt, and the best friend anyone could every ask for. She loved her family and friends deeply and she made sure they knew it.
Mabel will be missed and loved forever by us all.
