Mr. Melvin Jerome Fitzpatrick's Obituary
Melvin Jerome Fitzpatrick, 80, of Plano, Texas, passed away on February 17, 2026. Melvin was born on September 23, 1945, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Melvin Fitzpatrick and Cilla B. Fitzpatrick. As the oldest of four children, he grew up alongside his beloved sister Linda and two younger brothers, fondly known by their nicknames, Mann and Kent. He often regaled friends and family with stories of his childhood in Tallahassee and Jacksonville, sharing memories of the
adventures and antics he enjoyed with his closest lifelong friends, Robert Stanley and Albert Bouie.
Melvin attended Florida A&M University (FAMU) Junior and Senior High School, where he played football and joined the band, showcasing his musical talent and early love of music. After his first year of college, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. He proudly served on active duty from 1965 to 1969, stationed at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas, where he supported the base fire station, and later completed a tour in Turkey serving as an Air Rescue Man. His work in air rescue operations reflected his courage, dedication, and commitment to helping others. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Following his military service, Melvin began his professional career with Texas Instruments, where he worked for 30 years as a manufacturing engineer, production manager, and sales professional. These roles allowed him to exhibit his leadership skills and winning personality. While working full-time, he remained committed to continuing his education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University. After leaving Texas Instruments, he continued his successful career in sales with Marshall Industries, Arrow Electronics, and E.O. Systems. Even in retirement, Melvin remained active, working as a marketing representative with Dependable Care Health Services, LLC. Beyond his professional accomplishments,
Melvin will be remembered for his love of life, kind heart, strong character, and deep devotion to family and friends. He was always excited to attend his daughter’s school events and proudly said her love of music and dance came from him. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed baseball, basketball, and bowling, participating in local leagues for many years. As an honorary Texan, he embraced fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a proud member of the Texas Longhorn Camping Club for 35 years. Twenty of those years included camping club trips with his life partner, Cynthia Scott, traveling monthly to club events and across the country with fellow members, capturing treasured memories through photography and DVDs.
Melvin and Cynthia also enjoyed traveling the world, from island hopping in the Caribbean to visiting Paris, Marbella, Granada, Gibraltar, and even crossing into Northern Africa. His love of music remained a lifelong passion, and he was a talented pianist who enjoyed all types of music and dancing.
Melvin was a devoted member of Hill Chapel CME Church, where he faithfully supported church activities and fellowship. He was also actively involved in the Plano community, always willing to lend a helping hand, support local events, and build meaningful connections throughout the city he proudly called home. He took great pride in documenting church and community moments through photographs and DVDs to share with others.
Even as his health declined, Melvin continued to live life fully, often saying, “I’m still kicking — but not high!” He will be remembered for his warm personality, kindness, infectious humor, and remarkable ability to make others laugh until they hurt. His joyful spirit and love for life touched everyone who knew him.
