Olen Ray Minnix's Obituary
The funeral service for retired D.P. S. Sergeant Olen Ray Minnix will be conducted on Friday, July 27th, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Crossroads Christian Church located at 6450 TX-360, Grand Prairie, Texas. The burial service will take place at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery at 1 PM. The veteran cemetery is located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas. The visitation will be held at Crossroads Christian Church in the Crossroads Chapel (entrance on South side of Church) on Thursday evening, July 26 from 7-9 PM located at 6450 TX-360, Grand Prairie, Texas.
Olen passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 4:34 AM at the age of 86 in his home. Sergeant Minnix is survived by Harlene Bryson Minnix, his wife of 61 ½ years, also a D.P.S. retiree from the Garland Crime Lab. He is also survived by two children Guy Douglas Minnix of Mansfield, Tx., and Gayla Minnix Bridges of Plano, Tx. He had 5 grandchildren: Jordan Bridges, Cortney Fuller, Laci Soutar, Natalie Cave, and Jared Minnix. He also had 6 great grandchildren: Hailey Goggans, Reese Bridges, Sawyer & Dallas Soutar, Bella Fuller, & Avianna Cave.
Sergeant Minnix had 31 years of active duty along with 2 years of military service, with 1 of those years in Korea, for a total of 33 years with the DPS. He loved his Saviour Jesus Christ and was a long time member of the Baptist Church. He also belonged to the American Legion, and was a Mason for over 50 years. Olen was a sports enthusiast and loved competing in the Texas State Police Olympics, winning several gold medals in different track events. He coached little league baseball and was a football referee for 25 years. After retiring from the DPS in 1987, he spent many years as a private security guard. Olen loved his family and worked very hard to support them.
