Reginald Van Johnson's Obituary
With great sadness, we announce that Reginald “Reggie” Van Johnson, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend, has passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2024, at his home in The Colony, TX. Born on June 17, 1954, in Milwaukee, WI, to the union of Bertha M. Parker (formerly Johnson; née Bacon) and Joseph V. Johnson. Reggie’s life was marked by dedication, creativity, and kindness.
From a young age, Reggie had a fascination with airplanes, which inspired him to join the U.S. Air Force, where he served with honor and pride. His service reflected his deep sense of duty and love for his country. Following his discharge, he relocated to Dallas, TX, where he pursued studies at Brookhaven College. It was there that Reggie discovered a new passion for graphic art, which would become a lasting source of creative fulfillment. Reggie’s career journey reflected his unique blend of technical skill and artistic talent.
He thrived as a Graphic Artist, Production Staging Technician, Web Designer and Technical Help Desk Representative, combining his eye for detail with a hands-on approach to his work. As his enthusiasm for aviation and technology continued into adulthood, he became known as a “techie” who delighted in exploring new gadgets, building model airplanes, and flying drones. He always greeted challenges with a calm smile and a readiness to help. Reggie was a gentle soul with an independent spirit, expressing himself through various artistic hobbies, including sketch drawing, origami, and model assembly. His home reflected his creative passions, filled with artwork and carefully crafted pieces that captured his vision and love for the craft. A lover of the Dallas Cowboys, jazz music, sweet potato pie, Wingstop (lemon pepper!) and Jay’s potato chips, Reggie found joy in life’s simple pleasures and greeted others with a warm smile and easygoing humor.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Lakeisha Green (Darren); his cherished grandchildren, Kaiden and Kaz; sisters, Cheryle Gray and Janice Johnson; nephews and nieces, David Gray (Katrina), Clifton Gray (Krystal), Nikisha Johnson, Khamia Lawrence (Anthony) and their families. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of aunts, cousins and friends whom he considered his extended family. Reggie’s family meant everything to him, and he was known for his generous spirit and gentle humor. Spiritually, Reggie was deeply rooted in his faith; he lived by the Will of God.
As a child, Reggie received his salvation in Christ through baptism at Bethel Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin founded by his Grandfather John O. Johnson. He later joined One Community Church in Plano, Texas, where he served with joy on the Stage Production Ministry. His spiritual journey was a source of strength and comfort, and he treasured the fellowship he found within his church community. Reggie’s humor, kindness, and gentle soul left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated by his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. On behalf of our family, we deeply appreciate those who have surrounded us with prayers, love and support during this time of sorrow.
Thank you all for your unwavering kindness. A special memorial service in Reggie’s honor will be held at a later date in 2024.
