I've known Reggie for 35 years. He was such a good boss when we worked together at UNT, I recommended him for a position at an advertising agency where I worked so he could be my boss again. The best boss I've ever had in my life. Reggie told great stories. He listened. He wanted to know your story and he was an encourager. If he saw your potential, he would do what he could to get the best out of you so you could grow and he celebrated your successes. He has departed this life way too soon.
He loved his kids. When Reggie told me he was going to get married, he told me about the little girl that would soon be his daughter and told me how much he already loved her. She made him a dad. And then he became a dad a second time with his son and any time I spoke to Reggie, he always would talk about his kids and how much he loved them. He beamed when he spoke of them. I knew Reggie for many years before he became a dad, and he was already an awesome person - but being a father added something new. And it was beautiful.
I told Reggie once that he was the best boss I had ever had and he was truly humbled by that and flattered. I'm glad I told him.
I am grateful to God for having known Reggie Sutton. He was a great man. A great leader. A great mentor. A great boss. And a great friend.
