Richard Arthur Christie's Obituary
Richard Arthur Christie, age 94, passed away on March 2, 2024 due to complications
from myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
Richard was a proud father of Christine McCall, Allison Dale (Patrick Dale) and Carole
Cocagne (Andy Cocagne). He was blessed with six grandchildren, Sarah Warren (David
Warren), Meghan Anderson (Steve Anderson), Kelley George (John George), Richard
Dale (Ahtoosa Dale), Matthew Cocagne and Natalie Cocagne. Richard also had seven
great-grandchildren, Jacob Warren, Andrew Warren, Madelyn Anderson, Leila Dale,
Jackson Anderson, Shiva Dale and Kaiden George. He was preceded in death by his wife
of 68 years, Evelyn Gertrude Christie, his father Ross Carlyle Christie, his mother Bertha
Bell Christie, his brothers Floyd Edward Christie and Ross Carlyle Christie Jr.
Richard was born on November 10, 1929 in Detroit, MI. He was the youngest of three
children raised during the Great Depression. In the summer of 1948, he met Evelyn
Gilbert on a Great Lakes dinner cruise and knew she was the one. They married on
December 29, 1951 at St John Berchmans in Detroit, MI. He moved with Evelyn to Fort
Benning, Georgia where his eldest daughter Christine was born. Richard was
discharged from the Army as a 2nd lieutenant in 1953. Upon returning to Michigan,
Richard completed his degree from Wayne State University and began his career with
Michigan Bell Telephone Company.
In 1988, Richard retired from Michigan Bell after 33 years and moved to Howell, MI
where he and Evelyn lived for over 30 years before moving to Cedar Hill, TX in 2018.
Richard enjoyed being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Richard was an avid hunter of deer and birds and spent many years with his buddies in
Northern Michigan. During his career and into retirement, Richard and Evelyn enjoyed
their travels around the world. Cruising and traversing Europe became one of his
favorite pastimes.
A mass to celebrate Richard will be held on April 11, 2024 at 11am in the St. Jude
Catholic Church at 500 E Dallas St in Mansfield, TX. His burial will follow at 1pm at the
DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas TX.
