Rochel M. Guinn's Obituary
Rochel Melvin Guinn was born October 6, 1936 to Cordia Davis and Charles Guinn in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. Rochel’s formative years were spent in Kansas City, Kansas with “Momma and Daddy Williams”. He relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas where he graduated from Horace Mann High School. Rochel attended Philander Smith College where he met and later married Alveretta Smith.
Rochel taught music in various Arkansas schools. He was director of the collegiate choir at his Alma mater, Philander Smith College and at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Rachel moved back to Kansas City, where he owned a small trucking company. He remarried twice then later moved to Texas. He enjoyed good food and gatherings with family and friends.
Rochel is preceded in death by his father Charles “Coffee” Guinn, his mother Cordia Galloway, his step father George Truman Galloway and his sister, Bobetta McLemore.
On December 24, 2016 Rochel left to cherish his memory, his children Gia (Bryan) Cook of Fort Worth,TX; Keenan (Miyosha) Guinn of Cedar Hill, TX; LaTonja LaGrone of Jonesboro, AR; Tracey Canady (Tracy) of Morrillton, AR. In addition, he left eleven grand children and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and students.
