Roy Anthony Mason
Sunrise: March 5, 1953- Sunset: June 6, 2025
Roy Anthony Mason, a renaissance man was born on March 5, 1953 to the union of Mr. Christmas and Mrs. Sarah Mason in Newport News, Virginia. Roy was a life-long learner even at a young age and a proud 1971 graduate of Huntington High School in Newport News, Virginia. As a naturally ambitious young man he served as Freshman Class President and was selected to be the School Photographer given his natural gifts as a Leader and Creative. Roy had an eye for capturing the beauty that surrounded him even as a young man and that love for capturing the essence of life continued throughout his adult life. Roy was a natural born entrepreneur and established fulfilling career experiences in professional spaces such as real estate, sales, and people leadership roles.
Roy was a proud father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and genuine friend. Roy was known by those that loved him for his unwavering strength, authenticity, straight “no chaser” communication style, epic sense of humor, quiet wisdom, entrepreneurial spirit and loving heart. He was truly one of a kind. A God-fearing man of integrity, he lived his life guided by faith, family and a deep sense of purpose. He served faithfully as a member of the Potter’s House of Dallas in addition to Security detail and a committed volunteer to serve the needs of the church and community on a local and national scale.
Roy’s life was full of color and adventure! He loved to cook unbelievably delicious dishes for his family and friends, had a passion for domestic and international travel, and was an avid reader of a plethora of topics from investing to theology. Let’s not forget his “fits”…..yes, he was quite the dresser. Sharp in appearance and sharp in intellect. He loved interacting with a diverse community of people and genuinely cherished mentoring anyone who crossed his path that had an ear and heart to hear. He also cherished spending countless hours in his yard tending to his landscaping. He found solace and peace planting vibrant exotic plants and nature watching the birds as they too enjoyed the work of his hands. Remember, I said he was full of colorful adventure? Well, if you knew him, you also really knew he LOVED the Christmas holiday season and that his father’s name was Christmas! Oh Boy did he love the holiday even more because of that……Let’s just say, when Christmas came around, it was lights, camera, action inside and outside the home! It was quite a treat to experience his holiday décor and creations, from toy trains, rotating trees, candy treats, endless homemade cuisine made with pure love and the fireplace a blazing. One fond memory was him dressing up in a bunny suit in honor of one of his favorite classic Christmas movie called the Christmas Story. He was not shy about putting on a onesie, a Santa hat, grabbing a microphone and singing every Christmas song ever made. Let’s just say, he was the life of the party and loved to entertain those he loved. When he got started, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when the laughter commenced.
But wait, there’s more my friends. As a Creative, Roy amassed unique life experiences and memories in his life doing some really, shall we say, cool things such as serving as a professional travelling photographer for many well-respected musical artists such as Parliament Funkadelic, the iconic Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson) and countless others. The irony with these experiences is that he didn’t speak a lot about these amazing life experiences much in a boastful manner, but if you had a unique chance to sit with him in those quiet moments to pick his brain, in his own humble way he would share his stories and leave you as the listener in great awe and surprise. He was a man of many talents, gifts, interests, hobbies and passions. To know him was to truly love, admire and adore him.
Given Roy’s transition to Glory, our hearts will miss him beyond words for the rest of our lifetimes, but we are comforted in knowing that he is now at peace in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Roy’s transition is yet a reminder that as Believers we are ALL just Pilgrams passing through this earthly life for an appointed time. We are only here for a finite period of time to do the best we can on this life’s journey. Roy was a beloved child of God, a man that was imperfectly perfect and God graced him with this life to make an impact, and that he did. His life demonstrated the importance of us all recognizing the beauty of God’s love, grace and mercy. As his loved ones we humbly thank God for his life, his spirit, his memories, his strength and his love. He will live in us all, always.
Roy leaves in God’s care to cherish his memory: His loving wife, Michele Mason of 25 years. His beloved brothers, Elgin Mason and Malcon Mason. His beloved children: Kisha Bowser, Sarah Tyler, Anthony Simpson, Dameka and Michael Stringer (bonus daughter), Kevin and Monice Wilson (bonus son), a great host of beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lastly, he is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Christmas and Sarah Mason.
Shall we end with one of your favorite scriptures? Let’s do it. Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever. May you rest in peace eternally, Roy Anthony Mason. Until we meet again. WE love you.
