Sarai Elise Pierce's Obituary
Sarai Elise Piece was born on October 19, 2009 to Broderick and Tanika Pierce at 4:17pm. It was a beautiful day. She came into the world quietly, no crying, but she would soon get her voice and be heard.
Sarai was a caring, funny and beautiful child, full of life and love. She loved singing, dancing and gymnastics. She loved to play with legos, Shopkins, Num Noms, draw and eat vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. Her favorite food was her mom’s lasagna which she often helped prepare.
Sarai had a special bond with her brother, Sekai Pierce. He was her knight in shining armor. Sekai inspired Sarai when no one else could, he was her strength and motivation in life. Their love for each other was profound and evident.
Sarai’s younger sister, Saiya, looked up to her and copied everything Sarai did and still does. Their sisterly love was a joy to watch grow.
Sarai was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in February of this year and fought courageously for 7 months, losing nearly all her ability to function independently. Even enduring such debilitating circumstances, Sarai never complained, adapted and made the best of whatever function she had. She was a warrior until the end on Thursday September 28th, 2017 when she became a butterfly.
She was surrounded with the love of her parents: Broderick and Tanika Pierce. Her grandparents: Rita Giddings-Johnson, Clifton and Lynda Pierce and Perry and Sharron Johnson. Her siblings, Sekai Pierce and Saiya Pierce. Her Aunts and Uncles: Clifton and Krista Pierce; Will and Akiah Pettis; Edgar and Kanika Douglas; Damien Brigham and D’Andria Brigham. Her godparents, Nikki Moses and Sederick Fuller. And cousins from the immediate family: Kyler, Kyra and Colby Pierce; Heaven-Leigh, William, Gabriella, Christian and Micah Pettis; Edgar III, Ruby and Elijah Douglas; and Frazier Facion.
In her short life she touched many people and never met a stranger.
