I remember how much my grandmother loved my sisters cat, Sion. She would always be so bothered when the cat left her bed and wasn't around to bet pet by her. Ultimately she would try to fool the cat with something so the cat would come back onto her bed.
I don't think I ever truly understood who my grandmother really was until this past year. Unfortunately she was very ill, but she was still very much herself. Her humor, passion for pets, her pickiness in what to eat, and her outrageous ideas and ways to express herself have been passed down to us as her grandchildren. The more you learn about your family, the more you learn how similar you can be to them.
As a young teenager I was very ignorant and didn't understand the value of family. Now that my family is far away and spread around, I am deeply affected by all this. I will make sure that when I can to go and see all of my family as much as I can.
Not to say that I didn't go to see my mother and grandmother when they lived 5 minutes away, in fact my wife and I loved to visit them regularly, but I am still regretting that we didn't visit them even more often..
