Velma L. Hatch's Obituary
Velma Lee Hatch was born February 21, 1938, in Terrell, Texasto Henry Calahan and Rosa Lee Calahan (Miller). In 1945, her family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she spent her childhood with her siblings, Dempsey, Joyce, and Mary.
Velma began her education at McCoy Elementary School on the city’s west side in Fort Worth, Texas, and later attended I.M. Terrell High School. Although her path changed before graduation, she devoted herself to raising her family and building a life rooted in love, dedication, and perseverance. She later earned her GED while continuing to work and care for her family.
Velma worked at American Manufacturing, General Motors, and later Radio Shack. In 1968, she married Sgt. Charles Edward Hatch, who lovingly helped raise her children before they welcomed a child of their own together. Through love, unity, and perseverance, they built a strong and caring family and worked side by side to provide a good life for themselves and their children.
Velma was predeceased by her husband, Charles Edward Hatch; her brother, Dempsey Calahan; her sister, Joyce Lee Lewis; and her parents, Henry Calahan and Rosie Lee Calahan (Miller).
Mother leaves to cherish her memory five children: Phyllis Calahan, Curtis Calahan, Jackie Jones, John Sims III, and DeVona Hatch George (Leonard); her sister, Mary Howard (Bobby); 11 grandchildren—Leonard George, Jr., Marcelle Hicks, Quinton Wilson, Denise Wilson, Demetric Banks, Curtis Calahan, Jr., John Sims, Jr., Joshua Heflin, Damon Sims, Samantha Williams, and Alexandria Jones; 2 great-grandchildren—Britannica Scott Glenn (Michael) and Giani Sanders; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Milani Glenn and Moriah Glenn.
Velma will be remembered as a strong, resilient, and loving woman whose life was centered on faith, family, and hard work.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all relatives, friends, and loved ones for their prayers, support, and presence in celebrating the life and memory of Velma Hatch.
