Willie Mae Goodson's Obituary
Willie Mae Goodson was born in Los Angeles, California. She was the middle child to Mattie Stell and Bennie Nelson. Willie Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Los Angeles where Former LA Mayor Tom Bradley was the school Resource Officer.
In October 1971, she married Roy Goodson in Reno, Nevada. From this union, came a devoted daughter, Sheila Goodson-Hornbeak. Together as a family they traveled intensely to several countries including Thailand, Turkey and Spain. After all the travels the Goodson family called Los Angeles, California their home. Willie Mae’s love for children led her to she start her own daycare; raising the children of the community.
Willie Mae was a faithful and dedicated member of Bryant Temple A.M.E Church, Los Angeles, CA for 15 years. Under the leadership of V.L Brenson. She truly loved her church and her church family. During this time she developed meaningful friendships that would last decades. She sang in the Chancel Choir and the member of then Missionary Society. Bryant temple family loved to come to the Goodson household for Sunday dinners and BBQ’s.
Willie relocated to Dallas, TX with daughter Sheila and grandson, Jelon. After, moving to Dallas, TX. She joined Koinonia Christian Church under the leadership of Dr. Ronnie Goines. She felt like she found her new church home. She enjoyed his messages and the warm congregation.
While many years of meeting people she became granny to many and mom to several. Her caring heart and genuine love were truly felt by all she encountered. She always had a house full of kids. She always made sure that they were taken care of and well feed. “Everyone Loved Granny’s Kool Aid”. She Loved Cooking, Soap Operas, Church, Singing, Family, Friends and Most Importantly the LORD.
She was a devoted, dedicated wife and loving, caring, sharing mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
On Friday, December 17, 2021, Willie Mae peacefully slept away. She will be remembered and greatly missed. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Roy, three brothers; Bennie, Jr., Robert and Hughie, and two sisters; Ruby and Loretta. Willie Mae leaves to cherish her wonderful memories are her daughter Sheila Goodson-Hornbeak, grandson, Je’lon Hornbeak, great-grandchildren, Kao & Kai Hornbeak, God-daughter, Dyonne Beranek, all of Grand Prairie, Texas. She also leaves to cherish her memories two sisters-in-law, Marion Nelson of El Centro, California, Brenda Nelson of Fontana, California and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
