I am so sad to learn of Akinniran's passing. He was my favorite professor at UT Memphis and the Chairman of my thesis committee in graduate school. I loved his sense of humor, and his enthusiasm for his work, for his family, and for his students. Akinniran was a tremendous advocate for me in graduate school, as I was perpetually frustrated by the thesis process. He was always kind and encouraging while holding me to the highest standards of excellence, and I could see that he held himself to those same standards. As I write this, I can hear his laugh and find myself chuckling as I reflect on how animated he would become when he was teaching kinesiology, or engaging in chapters of epic storytelling. Akinniran's office door was always open, as was his heart and his fantastic mind. I have such fond memories of sitting with him there and just chatting and laughing and learning. He was such a wonderfully authentic character who had a profound impact on me both personally and professionally. I am a better human because of Akinniran, and although these condolences are late, I do hope that his family is finding joy in how I remember him. Love and light to you all!
