Janie G. Davies' Obituary
Janie G. Davies of Arlington returned to her heavenly home on March 17, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her throughout her life and into His loving arms.
Her parents, Santos and Lupita Galvan, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Juanita, on January 16, 1947 in San Benito, Texas. Her sister, Minerva “Minnie” Alvarez, adored her new sibling and lifelong friend. As a child, Janie contracted whooping cough which led to chronic lung disease, but throughout her life she refused to allow her illness to hold her back and never allowed her medical condition to define her life. In 1965, a happy, optimistic, and always social Janie graduated from San Benito High School. When Minnie married Alfredo “Al” Alvarez that same year, she felt blessed to gain a loving brother-in-law and she was thrilled to be called “Aunt Janie” when Darlene, Debbie, and Denise entered her life. She felt a strong bond, commitment, and adoration to her nieces. In 1971, Janie married John Davies and soon after gave birth to Jeff in 1973 and Dallas in 1976. She was also overjoyed that sister-in-law and enduring friend, Elaine Mayfield-Davies became a part of her life. Janie was a devoted, involved, and exceptional mother, who always gave her time and heart to her sons throughout their lives.
Janie retired from the Social Security Administration in 2011 after 18 years of federal service. As a Claims Representative and Quality Review Analyst, she was passionate about interacting with people and finding ways to help children and families with program assistance and benefits. She used her case management experience to take control of her life as she courageously tackled her chronic lung disease including Cystic Fibrosis and also bravely won the fight against breast cancer. She was relentless with her documentation and kept a daily log of medications, phone conversations, doctors and nurses, suppliers, distributors, and insurance information. In a 2015 CF Roundtable article titled “Documentation Is Everything” written by Janie, she explained, “I believe you are your own advocate. If there is one piece of advice I would give to the readers it is to document everything.” Her family took those and other lessons from her to heart.
Janie loved to dance, read, and travel. She enjoyed serving her community through prayers, good works, and fellowship as a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Women’s Guild, Arlington, Texas.
Janie is survived by her sons, Jeff and Dallas; daughter-in-law Amie; grandchildren Spencer, Henley, and Dane; Sister, Minnie Alvarez; Nieces, Darlene and Debbie. She is preceded in death by her parents and niece, Denise.
“Life with you on Earth was so short, but in Heaven it will be eternity.”
