Mr. Ricky Mells' Obituary
Ricky Mells passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer Tuesday, August 20, 2024, with the love of family surrounding him.
Ricky was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1959 to Ester and Robert Mells. He began a devoted long-time career with FedEx in 1979, and married Bernice Curtis in Memphis in 1987. Together they raised their children Aaron and Ashlee. The family moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 1991, where they had the joy of establishing a life with many family and friends.
Ricky was a devoted father and husband, and loyal friend to many, and in recent years the most proud grandpa to Hudson and Campbell. Ricky loved all sports, including baseball, basketball and football, barbecuing for family and friends, and mentoring kids.
He will be missed by his wife of 37 years, Bernice; children, Aaron (Cacy) and Ashlee; grandchildren, Hudson and Campbell; siblings Robert Jr., Bertha and Larry (Dorothy); as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Ester and Robert; siblings, Andrew and Willie.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, from 1 to 5pm at Mansfield Funeral Home, 1556 Heritage Parkway, Mansfield, TX 76063. A celebration of life and burial will be held in Memphis, TN with details to follow.
